Not all prayers are created equal!

The art of helpful prayer and how to ‘send energy’ without depleting oneself or compounding the problem”

By Debra Lynne Katz

I always have mixed feelings when I hear someone, via social media, as well meaning as they are, calling upon a group of people to generically send energy over to someone who is ill. On the one hand I’m filled with a sense of appreciation for the request. With all the bad news on T.V., it is more than encouraging to be reminded that so many people are loving and will do what ever they can to help total strangers.

But I also am concerned about these calls for prayers because I know that a lot of the well meaning individuals don’t understand energy/thought form dynamics. They don’t understand how to heal in ways where they won’t confound the problem, or deplete themselves.

So what are we sending when we send “prayers” and “energy”? The person needing healing actually may in fact be ill precisely because so much emotional energy and thought forms from others have been sent to him already, that he just can’t take it anymore. This can lead to headaches, backaches, stomachaches, exhaustion, confusion, and eventually manifest on a real physical level as an illness. What that person really needs is to be clear of most other energies, including thoughts forms & emotions (suffocating, desperate or fear based prayers) so he/she can experience their own.

I know this is concept going to hurt some people’s feelings who just have the best intentions and I hate the idea of that. I’m not in the least saying stop caring or helping, I’m just saying get educated so you are in the best position to continuing helping as many people as possible. Also, know that less is sometimes more and more is sometimes less. A single individual/healer who understands how to work with energy, may in fact be more effective than a large group of people who don’t. Of course a large group of trained healers or mediators can work wonders. There is so much about this in the parapsychology and “heart math” literature as well. (Dean Radin’s books are a good place to start with this as is Lyn McTagert’s, “The Intention Experiment”).

The good news is energy healing is actually a lot easier and simpler than many people think. It doesn’t take years to perfect or hours to do or complex understanding of the physical or spiritual anatomy. It’s someone people can learn on their own from books, other healers, etc. Sometimes, simply watching on a clairvoyant level what happens during effective healing and emulating this is the best way to learn.

I’ve been doing clairvoyant readings of thousands of people over the past 20 years and this comes up frequently. When looking at someone’s field, an “energy” for lack of a better word will show up unexpectedly, often as a color, or cloud like visual.

Further probing of this (probing in the same way when a shape appears in a remote viewing session you’d probe it, explore, map it, etc) will often show it’s connected to someone else’s emotions and thoughts. These may be embedded in the person or as in my client last night, her energy was actually extending out to too many others in need, which was causing her to become overly concerned and enmeshed with their problems and issues that didn’t concern her. She came to me because she was aware she had taken on a lot of other’s people’s emotions, and also because some people were getting angry with her when all she was trying to do was help them. What she didn’t anticipate was the idea that she was more in their space then they were in hers. This was because she cared about them so much to the point that she was exceeding the limits of merely offering help, she wanted to see results and changes in them, before they were ready to make these shifts. Also, she thought that if they saw the changes, this would motivate them to return to her on a professional level.

I reminded her that this is why people in helping professions need to be completely detached from them returning, as it creates a conflict of interest. This goes against all marketing advice, yet it’s the best thing we can do for ourselves and clients, aim for them not needing to return to us unless they are doing so just because they enjoy it so much. I noticed for my client, the more these people resisted changing or acting on her advice, the more she moved into their space to get them to do what they couldn’t for themselves. She was capable of doing these things in her own space, but not in theirs. This was a case of her not realizing how valuable even just a few words of wisdom were for them – that this was really her only job rather than “getting” them to change.

When I reminded her that as an intuitive counselor her job is to plant a few “seeds” that will germinate as the client or friend is ready in their own season and time she felt a big relief and I saw her own “field” move back to herself. Bottom line, all the standing over a tiny bud and yelling at it isn’t going to do any good. But moving far away from it, at least enough so it can greet the sun and water and all the good things it needs to grow and flourish on it’s own, will do it wonders.

The old adage, you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink applies here. How many of us are trying to make just about everyone in our lives take a drink, and then when they aren’t appreciative we feel hurt, rejected, FRUSTRATED or as if we have somehow failed them and ourselves?

But I digress: I’ve seen the unintended effects of the most loving but also most anxious mothers and grandmothers who have been feverishly praying for their children or relatives, whether at home or in church. They aren’t sending their worries over, they are sending their fears, judgment, and sometimes even intense grief. How could they not if they aren’t aware not to do this? What’s the end result? The person they are praying for goes into confusion about that which they were so enthusiastic or even certain about a short time before  (i.e., that overseas trip, going off to school, that new love interest). Confusion is often the result of other’s thought forms entering into our field that conflict with what it is we really know on a deep level is right for ourselves.

This is why I think the idea of remote “influencing” and other common related ethical questions that students ask or cite as reasons they stay away from all psychic or healing work is kind of a mute one. People, we are doing it every second of our lives! The moment we have a thought about someone we can impact them to an extent, or conversely, by the time we have the thought it’s because it’s indicative of them entering our field and having an impact on us. Often there is a mutual connection, but not always.

The most focus we have on an individual, fueled by emotion, desire, fear, or loneliness, the more likelihood we are either sending something of ourselves over to them or vs. versa.

That’s why it takes awareness, discipline, and some preparation, not a lot, but some, for a person to get themselves into a good enough place before they work on someone else. Also where is the “light” coming from? If I send my “light”, my energy, it’s like what you see in the photo of mediums with ectoplasm ( which does seem to be real phenomenon, as strange as it seems). How much can one send before one is depleted? But I don’t need to use my own, from my own body, I can make use of other energies if I use my clairvoyant skills to see what energies is best for that particular client/person at that time? I can also send a frequency and help someone match to it. I say “I” but it’s not that I have a gift, it’s something anyone can do. This is something people can learn like remote viewing. So bottom line, when the call went out to send healing to a famous remote viewer recently, on just about every remote viewing forum, what did that really do? As well meaning as it was I never want to say someone shouldn’t, but….was it all light and sparkle joy going to him or was it worry?. In the end it turned out he had the flu, and was just fine…he did say he appreciated the concern and well wishes though! I do know that just the idea that others care can bring solace is often enough to give people a boost.

In fact every time you do a remote viewing session, or martial arts or dance routine or art project and you think about one of your teachers, mentors or the person you rely on, and you start thinking “Wow, I’m not so good, I wish I was like them”, “I wonder what they would think about this?”, or “How would they handle this problem?” what this does is send them your anxiety, or frustration if that’s the state you are in. For the most part, they can deal with it, but if too many people who are intense and passionate about learning, and at the same time insecure seeking answers all project their attention to these teachers (or therapists, really anyone in a helping or mentorship position) what will happen to the teachers is they will subconsciously pick up on this and could go into doubt with themselves as the energy doesn’t define itself.

I noticed a trend several years ago – it seemed as if about 4 times a year, for a period of about 4 weeks, I’d go into more of a state of uncertainly in my reading space, feeling like I was more blocked and losing confidence right before a session with a client. During this period I had a few readers individually tune into my field to ascertain why I was experiencing this and they all independently agreed it had to do with the energy of brand new students who were feeling very unconfident. Every time they felt nervous about the steps they were taking, they sent their attention to me. I was being perceptive on an unconscious level by perceiving these emotions as my own. Two things helped me clear this:  Spending extra time meditating and doing energy work on my self (as described in my books “You Are Psychic” & “Extraordinary Psychic”) and getting my students to a level of proficiency (which does take some time, but not that much) where their self doubt turned to self confidence about their own progress.

So worry, stress and “I’m not good enough” thought forms or even panic will get translated into what ever their pictures or thought forms the receiver is struggling with. When someone is a caregiver for someone who is dying or in a dire state of health, or just living with a depressed person, those feelings and emotions can “bleed” into the caregiver or loved ones “field”. The more panicky the sick person gets the more the caregiver feels panicked or depressed.

So it works in both directions:  Bottom line, sending prayers and light and love are helpful but it doesn’t need to come from our own bodies, and it shouldn’t come from a place of “Oh no I am worried I hope this person is ok because I wouldn’t want to have something bad happen to them”. Just FEEL that sentiment? Not good! But if you first get yourself worked up into an extreme state of bliss or joy, and I like to work with colors as that’s what energy can show itself of so I’ll say what is the color of the energy of extreme bliss and joy or simply “calmness” and Peace” for the person having a hard time, and then give them that gift as a shower of that color, that can have immediate results. People can feel when you do this even without knowing you are (seriously the results are instant, try this on yourself it works!).

The important thing to note here is to never blame anyone for impacting your own field energetically, unless they are being outwardly obnoxious of course with words and actions. I take full responsibility for what is in my space. I am not a victim to energy and neither is anyone else. I say that because almost always there is a reason we are letting it in, whether because we are trying to heal it or we are wanting to be healed or helped in some way by the person seeping into our field.  My job as a teacher is to help new students to gain confidence, and to help my clients in need. That means it’s up to me to own my field and be diligent about clearing it, rather than resist it. The truism “what we resist” persists is blatantly obvious in this realm. When I teach my students about energy dynamics in my Level I Clairvoyant class, this is what I emphasize. With awareness comes empowerment, not the other way around. Unfortunately, some other clairvoyant training/psychic schools fail to get this across to the new students who is becoming aware of themselves as energy beings, and suddenly you have a whole classroom filled with those paranoid about any type of energy exchange, which is really sad and counterproductive as that’s what human relationships are all about…it’s just the extent and balance of the exchange what’s important.

One of the most helpful and easiest ways to heal someone is to ask to see the light of “god” or what I call the “source of all healing” or “the highest power that is most beneficial to that particular person”. You don’t have to be religious or even believe in God to do this – maybe you’ll end up learning a thing or two if you do this as a clairvoyant exercise and let your imagination show you what happens next as you play around with this. Ask where is this light, and what color is it for the person? Then imagine you are helping them to hook up to it and watch the light flow through them and increase until you have a sense it’s helped in some ways or you get distracted. Be aware of your own field and if you are “trying hard”. Any time you go into “trying hard” during a healing you are most likely expanding too much personal energy as it’s not about effort what so ever.

In summary, often what a person needs more than anything is energetic space, or help clearing their space. If you don’t know how to heal or pray without inserting your life force into someone else’s field, I do suggest you read the latest edition of my first book, YOU ARE PSYCHIC: The Art of Clairvoyant Reading & Healing. It’s easy to learn and make the shift. Many people go through an entire lifetime not knowing what it feels to be themselves. When they start to everything in life changes and that’s when they find their passion and joy. Maybe that’s what you need as well.

Another good ebook to read is on this subject is Ingo Swann’s “Psychic Sexuality”. (don’t bother to find the print book, it’s out of print still and runs about $150 for a used copy that won’t reach his estate). Ingo was a contractor for the military. Swann trained military personal in the U.S. government’s clandestine program. He is now deceased, but is still the most respected figure in the history of remote viewing. However, most remote viewers don’t speak in terms of energy (unlike those in psychic/new age circles and many readers of my own books, who do) and many do not know that Ingo writes extensively about “bio-fields”, which have to do with people’s aura’s, energy exchanges, etc.
