Event Historical Target #8

Target: The Miracle of the Sun – Fátima, Portugal, October 13, 1917

Target Description:

On October 13, 1917, in Fátima, Portugal, tens of thousands of people—many estimates say between 30,000 to 100,000—gathered in a muddy field in response to a prophecy by three shepherd children who claimed the Virgin Mary would perform a miracle. At the predicted time, the clouds parted and the sun appeared to spin, dance, and zigzag across the sky, emitting brilliant colors and moving erratically. Many witnesses claimed to have seen the sun descend and then return to its place. Others described healings, religious awakenings, and the drying of their soaked clothes and ground. It became known as the “Miracle of the Sun”, and is recognized by the Catholic Church as part of the Fátima apparitions.Location – Cova da Iria (Fátima field)
